Back from Wiscon. We left the hotel yesterday, Tuesday, morning and got in at a decent hour, though the car ride was hot as blazes.

Great time. Cool to meet the Farrago's Wainscot crew in full and hear [info]ripperbard read his poetry which was wonderful, really one of the highlights of the weekend for me. Well, that and hearing Isaiah read in place of Maureen McHugh (delayed flight). Isaiah read from [info]darinbradley's manuscript and gave his theories on why dinosaurs are extinct, which involve the eating of ears.

Having Jason Williams of Nightshade bust into a room party where my head was spinning, march up to me with finger pointing, crazy eyes blazing, and shouting, "Your book was totally bad-ass!" Seeing Jesse of Scribe Agency do his 28 Weeks Later zombie run. The Sunday night, all-too-brief dance party. A couple lengthy chats with [info]squirrelmonkey, who's become one of my favorite people to see at Wiscon - just adore her. Very cool to catch up with Chris Barzak a tad and hear his thoughts on his forthcoming novel One for Sorrow, novel process, how he enjoyed working with Juliet Ulman, and othewise shooting the shit. Scheming with [info]markteppo, whom Isaiah calls "markteppo," about our respective tarot stories and how they might get leggoed together. Coffee(s) with Midori Snyder and Terry Windling. Hearing Ellen Kushner sing a snippet of a folksy song over yogurt and juice in the con suite (sweet voice, that woman!) and getting a signed copy of Privilege of the Sword. Hearing [info]yuki_onnaenthuse about Teh Teppo's "Harry Potemkin." The masked concertina player. Old Retard. Laughing until I have to wave a white flag and tell people to shut the fuck up.

Meeting Andrea Hairston! Wow, what a cool woman. She's guest of honor at Diversicon so I'm hoping to see her again this summer. And the icing on the cake was [info]silk_noir, who really just needs one more drink.

More later. Still just getting my brain around the weekend. Tell me what I forgot.

Wait. Don't. No!

We've maxed out on readers, so no more inquiries, please.  :)  That's going to be a relay race of a reading as it is.

We're going to go for Conference Room I, if possible (thanks for the tip,

[info]pantryslut!) But watch for posters at the con,  just in case we have last minute changes.

We'll be leaving Thursday for Wiscon -- Wiscon! -- and Lisa will be doing childcare for the con again. It's exhausting work, takes a lot out of her, but she feeds off it, too. The con (in particular, Karen Meisner) really treats her right and values her work, which is essential or Lisa wouldn't do it at all. I mean, I know Lisa rocks -- I watch how gracefully she handles a squad of bouncing lemurs every week, redirects grand maul tantrums into moments of delight, draws out the shy kid, musters group energy, diffuses it at will  -- all while parenting Isaiah and Rosemary. She's herculean. But it's so important to have an "employer" appreciate her, especially a once-per year employer. Good work, Wiscon. Thanks for valuing Lisa's mad skillz.

As for me, I'm involved with the writer's workshop Friday morning as usual, the Wheatland/Farrago's Wainscott/Scribe party (w/ home brew!) Saturday night, and, I hope, a guerilla reading somewhere in there, too. In a bar nearby. Maybe after dark on Friday? I'll read from the tarot story,  Magician and the Fool, and rope some other writers into reading, too, maybe. Watch for posters at the con.
